“Nigeria Is a Proud Football Nation” — CAF Confirms Abuja as Host of November General Assembly

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Nigeria will host its Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja in November, with CAF President Patrice Motsepe describing the country as “a proud football nation.”

Motsepe made the announcement during a press briefing in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he outlined the organisation’s plans following the 2026 FIFA World Cup and its broader strategy for football development across Africa.

He said the decision to stage the assembly in Nigeria reflects CAF’s commitment to recognising and supporting football growth across all 54 member associations. According to him, every African nation deserves special attention through the organisation’s programmes and investments, regardless of size or location.

Motsepe stressed that CAF remains focused on ensuring balanced football development throughout the continent, mentioning countries including South Africa, Kenya and Cameroon as part of its wider vision.

The November gathering will bring CAF stakeholders together in Nigeria for key deliberations on African football.
