The United States has expanded its travel restrictions, adding Nigeria and 14 other countries to a partial visa suspension list.
Announced on December 16, 2025, the decision cites “persistent and severe deficiencies in screening, vetting, and information sharing.”
The restrictions mainly affect visas for business, tourism, academic studies, vocational programmes, and exchange visitors.

Some exceptions exist, including permanent US residents, certain existing visa holders, and athletes participating in major sporting events.
