“National Shame” — Peter Obi Blasts Rising School Insecurity On Children’s Day

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the continued abduction of schoolchildren in Nigeria, describing the situation as a “national shame” and evidence of worsening insecurity across the country.

In a statement released to mark Children’s Day, Obi expressed sadness that many Nigerian children remain in captivity years after being kidnapped from their schools.

He said the persistent attacks on schools have created fear among parents, teachers, and students, making learning unsafe in several communities.

According to him, education cannot succeed in an atmosphere where children constantly face threats from criminal groups.

Obi added that the prolonged suffering of affected families reflects the government’s failure to adequately protect young Nigerians.

He warned that any nation unable to secure its children risks losing both moral credibility and international respect, while calling for urgent action to restore safety in schools nationwide.
