Lagos-based cleric Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo has responded to criticism from fellow ministers over his tattoo, asserting that some of the backlash stems from misunderstanding rather than scriptural concerns.
Speaking during a recent sermon, Okonkwo said he was insulted by “junior pastors” who questioned whether it was appropriate for a pastor to display a tattoo publicly.
He clarified that none of the critics demonstrated that tattoos are sinful, but instead debated their expediency and public display.
“Most interpretations I saw were shallow; tattoo is not a sin, yet they questioned why I posted it,” he said.
Okonkwo emphasised spiritual hierarchy, noting, “There is ranking in the spirit. My junior can’t talk when I am talking.”
He urged clarity and understanding over rigid opinions, stressing that true spiritual discernment comes from grounding in doctrine rather than tradition or popularity.
