Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has alleged that the recent resignation of his former deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, was linked to an attempt to remove him from office and assume the governorship.
Yusuf made the claim on Friday while receiving a group of praise singers known as Mawallafan Abba Gida Gida at the Government House in Kano, where he reflected on the political circumstances surrounding Abdussalam’s exit from the administration.
Abdussalam, popularly known as Gwarzo, resigned from office amid moves by the Kano State House of Assembly to impeach him. Following his resignation, the lawmakers subsequently halted the impeachment proceedings.
Speaking during the meeting, Yusuf said he had not officially seen or received Abdussalam’s resignation letter, maintaining that there was no wrongdoing by his administration that could justify the former deputy governor’s decision to step down.
“Today, the deputy governor who was elected alongside us is no longer part of this government. No one wronged him. In fact, I have not even come across his resignation letter, so why should I be concerned about it?” the governor said.
He further suggested that the former deputy governor’s actions were part of a political scheme aimed at forcing him out of office, noting however that the alleged plan failed.
“Whatever pushed him to act in that manner was an effort to depose me and occupy the seat, but God did not permit it,” Yusuf added.
The governor also questioned the political treatment Abdussalam received within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, implying that the circumstances surrounding his departure raised concerns about fairness.
“The deputy governor who left in hopes of getting that ticket—what was his offence? Why wasn’t he given the chance? Isn’t that unfair to him?” Yusuf asked.
