Nigerian singer Shallipopi, born Crown Uzama, has spoken candidly about the hostile experiences he faced while navigating Nigeria’s music industry, revealing that the treatment he received shaped his hardened outlook.
The singer disclosed that between 2023 and 2024, several colleagues subjected him to ridicule and rejection at a time he expected encouragement as an emerging artiste.
According to him, the lack of support during his early rise left lasting emotional scars.In a post shared on X, Shallipopi said the experience made him “extra mean”, explaining that survival in the industry required mental toughness. “
Many artistes poured spit on my face… that’s why I’m extra mean,” he wrote.
Despite the setbacks, his career gained momentum with the viral success of Elon Musk, later remixed with top stars, pushing him into the mainstream.
He has also credited rapper Zlatan for helping amplify his sound during a crucial period.
