Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to formally declare his presidential ambition on Thursday, 14 May, at a major political rally scheduled to hold at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

The event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026”, is being positioned as the official launch of Makinde’s anticipated 2027 presidential bid, alongside the unveiling of a proposed political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), as well as other aligned stakeholders within an emerging coalition reportedly being driven by the Oyo State governor and his supporters.

According to reports, preparations for the rally have intensified in recent days amid increasing political realignments within Oyo State and the wider South-West region.

It is also beign learnt that grassroots mobilisers, political associates, and loyalists of Governor Makinde have been actively engaging in strategic consultations aimed at shaping a broader political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political observers say the unfolding developments reflect a wider strategy to consolidate grassroots influence across Oyo State and beyond, while strengthening Makinde’s visibility and political reach at the national level.

Further reports indicate that consultations among key stakeholders have accelerated in recent weeks, particularly following unresolved internal tensions within the PDP at the national level. This has reportedly prompted some political actors and loyalists to explore alternative alignments.

The May 14 rally is expected to draw a wide range of political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, traditional supporters, and allies from across the country, many of whom are believed to support Makinde’s leadership style and political vision.

Although Governor Makinde has yet to make any formal public declaration regarding a 2027 presidential bid, pressure from support groups and political associates has continued to mount, with growing calls for him to officially enter the race.
