Ademola Lookman enjoyed a dream start to life at Atlético Madrid, scoring on his debut as Diego Simeone’s side swept aside Real Betis 5–0 to book a place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Thursday night.
The Super Eagles forward, who only completed his move from Atalanta earlier in the week, was handed an immediate opportunity and made a telling impact in Madrid.

Atlético took early control of the quarter-final tie when David Hancko broke the deadlock, setting the tone for a dominant display. Giuliano Simeone doubled the advantage in the 30th minute, capitalising on sustained pressure from the hosts.
Lookman then announced himself in style seven minutes later, racing onto a swift counter-attack and calmly finishing to make it 3–0 before the break.
The rout continued in the second half as Antoine Griezmann and Thiago Almada added further goals, sealing a comprehensive victory for Simeone’s men.
Both sides will have little time to reflect on the result, as Atlético Madrid and Real Betis are set to meet again on Sunday in a LaLiga clash.
