Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has urged Nigerians to avoid ethnic profiling in discussions about insecurity, warning against labelling all Fulani people as bandits.
Speaking in a video clip, the controversial artiste stressed that criminal activities should not be associated with an entire ethnic group, noting that many northerners live peacefully and conduct legitimate businesses across the country.
Portable said some Fulani people are involved in cattle rearing, trading and other lawful occupations, while people from different ethnic backgrounds also reside in various parts of Nigeria.
He argued that insecurity should be tackled by targeting criminals rather than judging individuals based on appearance, language or ethnicity.
According to him, banditry is not limited to a single tribe, as people from different ethnic groups can be involved in criminal acts.
The singer maintained that Nigerians should unite against bandits and avoid actions that could deepen ethnic divisions and misunderstanding.
