Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, has disclosed that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, signed a written agreement committing to serve only one four-year term if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Kwankwaso said the arrangement was designed to ensure power returns to Northern Nigeria after a single tenure in line with the party’s power-sharing formula.
The former Kano State governor expressed confidence that Obi would honour the agreement, stating that he had no reason to doubt his commitment.
According to him, both the party and the candidates documented the understanding through separate signed agreements. Kwankwaso explained that one agreement was executed on behalf of the party, while another was signed directly between himself and Obi.
He maintained that the accord reflects mutual trust and a shared commitment to the political arrangement agreed by the NDC leadership.
