JUST IN: FG Secures Release of 100 Niger School Kidnapped Schoolchildren

Federal Government have secured the release of 100 abducted schoolchildren kidnapped in Niger State, according to a United Nations source and local media reports on Sunday.

The pupils, taken from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, are expected to be handed over to Niger State local government officials on Monday, the source said.

Presidential spokesman Sunday Dare confirmed the children’s release to news agencies, though the status of the remaining 165 students and staff believed to still be in captivity remains uncertain.

A total of 315 people, 303 students and 12 teachers, were initially seized in the attack.

Around 50 pupils escaped within the first 24 hours and were reunited with their families, leaving 265 victims still held at the time.
