The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains its presidential candidate for the January 16, 2027 election, insisting his name was duly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Addressing journalists, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said INEC acknowledged receipt of the party’s manually submitted list of candidates but urged members not to lose hope if Jonathan’s name is absent from the candidates’ list scheduled for publication on August 1.
The faction accused INEC of institutional bias, alleging the commission ignored monitored congresses, withheld key information during court proceedings and failed to comply with favourable court orders.
Ememobong also maintained that the group’s Interim National Working Committee was lawfully constituted following court decisions on the party’s leadership.
He said the faction had appealed a Federal High Court judgment and remained confident the appellate court would uphold its position.
