INEC Extends Continuous Voter Registration to July 24

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks, shifting the deadline from July 10 to Friday, July 24, 2026, to allow more eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections.

The commission also unveiled an online self-service registration option for eligible first-time voters as part of efforts to improve access to the registration process.

INEC announced the development in a statement issued on Friday and signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.

According to the commission, the decision followed a review of the ongoing exercise and feedback received from its state offices, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

The nationwide CVR exercise commenced on August 18, 2025, and is expected to be the final major voter registration exercise before the 2027 general elections, making the extension significant for prospective voters.
