Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has criticised what she described as gender bias in marriage after reacting to a viral video in which an event MC appeared to excuse a husband’s infidelity while condemning a wife for the same act.
Sharing the clip on Instagram, the actress expressed anger over the remarks, saying she hoped the exchange was intended as a joke or social media content.
According to Edochie, society has long operated with different standards for men and women, often forgiving men for cheating while harshly judging women.
She argued that if infidelity is considered a sin, it should be treated equally regardless of gender, insisting that forgiveness and accountability must apply to both spouses.
The actress maintained that a marriage cannot thrive on unequal expectations, adding that justice which favours men while condemning women is unfair.
She concluded that true principles only have meaning when they are applied equally to everyone.
