A Nigerian lady has sparked conversation online after recounting an unpleasant outing with a friend, which she described as an example of growing “transactional friendships”.
In a viral video shared on social media, the lady explained that she had invited her friend out to avoid going alone, but was surprised when the friend allegedly asked her to pay for transport before they met.
She said the situation became more uncomfortable at the venue, where the friend reportedly ordered more food than she did, despite being the one who extended the invitation.
“I’d rather go out alone than deal with transactional friendships,” she said, expressing frustration over what she perceived as being treated like a sponsor.
While noting that she prefers covering bills when she invites others, she lamented that such gestures are now often taken for granted, adding that the experience has changed her approach to friendships.
