“I will always kneel” — Toyin Abraham defends gesture amid backlash over greeting Okoya couple

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has responded to criticism following her decision to kneel while greeting billionaire couple Razaq and Shade Okoya at a recent public event.

The moment, captured at the 70th birthday celebration of former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel, sparked debate online, with some questioning the necessity of the gesture.

Addressing the backlash, Toyin insisted her actions were intentional and rooted in Yoruba cultural values. “As a true Omoluabi, I will always uphold our values and culture,” she said, adding that respect remains a core part of her identity.

She further dismissed claims that kneeling diminishes her worth, stressing that it reflects honour, not submission. However, some fans argued that her actions appeared excessive and urged her to project more confidence.

Despite the mixed reactions, the actress maintained she would continue to show respect in ways she deems appropriate publicly.
