“I Wanted to Play as ‘Seyi,’ Not ‘Awolowo’” — BBNaija Ex-Housemate Opens Up

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Seyi Awolowo has revealed that he initially planned to conceal his famous family identity during his participation in the 2019 reality show, saying he wanted to be judged on his own merit rather than his surname.

Speaking on The Nigerian Meter Podcast, the grandson of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo said his plan was disrupted when show host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu introduced him on stage as “Seyi Awolowo,” immediately exposing his identity to fellow contestants and viewers.

“I didn’t want anybody to know I was an Awolowo in the house,” he said, adding that he had hoped to compete simply as “Seyi.”

Awolowo also dismissed claims that his family name gave him an advantage during the selection process, insisting he followed the regular audition procedure.

According to him, he stood in line like other contestants and only received his golden ticket around 3 a.m. on February 3 after completing the standard audition process.
