“I Take Full Responsibility” — Bolaji Ogunmola Apologises Over Controversial Yoruba Portrayal In Viral Film Scene

Nollywood actress and producer Bolaji Ogunmola has publicly apologised following backlash over a viral film scene accused of promoting tribal stereotypes against Yoruba people.

The controversy erupted after a clip featuring actor IK Ogbonna making derogatory remarks about Yoruba women circulated widely online, sparking outrage and criticism.

In her response, Ogunmola clarified that the offensive lines were not part of the original script, insisting they were improvised by the actor during filming.

She explained that she was present as both actor and producer but said she could not stop or edit the scene without the director’s approval, as creative control rests with the director on set.

Ogunmola expressed regret over the incident, apologising to the Yoruba community and stating that the film was intended as a fictional comedy about inter-tribal relationships.

She also condemned the threats and harassment she received online, while reaffirming her pride in her heritage and commitment to unity.
