Veteran Nigerian singer Daddy Showkey has explained why he is marking 50 years on stage despite being 56 years old, saying the milestone reflects his entire journey in entertainment rather than only his music career.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV ahead of his 57th birthday on August 4, the Galala pioneer revealed that he began performing as an acrobat at the age of six before moving into television.
He recalled appearing on the Bar Beach Show and later featuring in Village Headmaster, where veteran actor Adejumo Lewis discovered him in Ajegunle and helped shape his entertainment career.
Daddy Showkey said he considers himself a child star and expressed gratitude to his mother for supporting his talent from an early age.
He also urged parents to identify and nurture their children’s abilities while documenting their growth, stressing that his anniversary celebrates every stage of his lifelong contribution to the entertainment industry.
