“I Spend Over ₦40,000 Daily for Electricity” — Pete Edochie Laments Nigeria’s Power Crisis

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has voiced frustration over Nigeria’s persistent electricity challenges, revealing that he spends more than ₦40,000 daily just to power his home.

Speaking during an interview on African Independent Television, the 78-year-old actor explained that the amount covers multiple power sources due to unreliable public supply.

According to him, about ₦10,000 goes to purchasing electricity units from the distribution company, ₦20,000 is spent on diesel for his generator, while another ₦10,000 covers petrol for a smaller generator.

Edochie said the daily expense reflects the difficult reality many Nigerians face as they struggle with irregular electricity.

“On the whole, I spend forty thousand every single day on light. It disturbs me a big deal,” he said, criticising politicians for focusing on power and privilege rather than addressing citizens’ needs.

His comments come amid widespread complaints about poor electricity supply across Nigeria.
