“I Quit Acting In 2019 Because The Pay And Work Were Nonsense” — Deyemi Okanlawon

Actor Deyemi Okanlawon has revealed that he quit acting in 2019 after becoming dissatisfied with poor remuneration and what he described as the low quality of work available at the time.

Speaking during a recent interview on the CreativiTea podcast, the Nollywood star said he found it difficult to remain passionate about a career that no longer gave him fulfilment.

According to Okanlawon, he felt he had left a conventional 9-to-5 job only to engage in work he considered mediocre, making it increasingly difficult to stay motivated.

He said the combination of inadequate pay and unfulfilling roles eventually pushed him to return to corporate employment.

“So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay and the work were nonsense,” he said, adding that he questioned the value of pursuing a passion that no longer satisfied him.

Okanlawon has since returned to acting and is now regarded as one of Nollywood’s leading film and television actors.
