A Nigerian okpa seller has sparked debate online after claiming that unemployment in the country may not be as severe as widely believed.
In a viral video shared on X, the businessman explained that he has been struggling to hire salespersons to help run his okpa business despite offering what he described as an attractive package.
According to him, he offered a monthly salary of ₦100,000 to potential workers but many declined the job.
He added that he even proposed a three-year agreement that would end with a ₦3 million settlement and a motorcycle, yet the offer was still rejected by several applicants.
The man expressed frustration, suggesting that many young people prefer quick-money “working boy” lifestyles rather than engaging in small businesses.
His remarks triggered mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing with him while others argued that factors like working conditions and job prospects could influence why people refused the offer.
