“I Joined Obi Out Of Sympathy, Not Politics” — Baba-Ahmed Opens Up On 2023 Ticket

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has revealed that sympathy for Peter Obi and concern for Nigeria’s future, rather than political alignment, motivated his decision to accept the party’s vice-presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 election.

Speaking in an interview with Symfoni, Baba-Ahmed said Obi had approached three prominent politicians who declined to join him before he stepped forward as what he described as a volunteer for the sake of the country.

He explained that he felt compassion for both Obi and Nigeria at the time and decided to support the presidential bid.

The former senator, who recently left the Labour Party for the Peoples Redemption Party, stressed that his political decisions remain independent and are not controlled by Obi.

Baba-Ahmed also criticised Obi’s decision to leave the Labour Party over internal disputes, arguing that political challenges exist in every party and should be addressed rather than avoided.

He maintained that his support for Obi had limits and did not define his political future.
