Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter Ycee has opened up about his private struggle with mental health, revealing that he was diagnosed with a mental health disorder in 2020 and that the experience significantly changed his life and creativity.

Speaking during a recent interview, the music star disclosed that following medications and multiple hospitalisations, he gradually realised that he could no longer function creatively in the same way he once did.

According to him, accepting the changes became one of the most difficult parts of the journey. Ycee explained that the condition affected his artistic process and left him unable to freestyle as effortlessly as before.

His revelation adds to ongoing conversations around mental health awareness among public figures in Nigeria.

In recent years, several entertainers have also spoken publicly about personal struggles involving emotional wellbeing and mental health challenges.
