“I Enjoy Watching Rema and Burna Boy Perform” — U.S. Envoy Praises Nigerian Afrobeats Stars

The Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, Keith Heffern, has praised Nigerian Afrobeats stars Rema and Burna Boy, saying he enjoys watching their performances and recognising their growing global influence.

Speaking during the U.S. 250th Independence Day Celebration, Heffern said Afrobeats has become a worldwide phenomenon, with Nigerian artistes now topping music charts in the United States and across the world.

He recalled enjoying the performances of Rema and Burna Boy during the FIFA World Cup opening ceremonies and revealed that Rema’s song, “Goals,” would serve as an anthem as Team USA competed in its Round of 32 match.

Heffern also highlighted the enduring cultural connection between the United States and Nigeria through music, describing Motown as a powerful reminder of American music’s global influence and its strong ties with Nigeria’s vibrant creative industry.

He said music continues to strengthen cultural exchange between both nations.
