Movie producer Biodun Stephen has defended the use of on-screen kissing in Nollywood, insisting that directors and producers should not be blamed for marital problems involving actors.
Speaking in an Instagram video, Stephen said actors and their spouses understand the demands of the profession and should take responsibility for managing their relationships.
She explained that although kissing is not a major feature of her films because she prefers productions families can watch together, she would include such scenes when the storyline requires them.
According to her, believable emotions and strong chemistry help make films convincing to audiences. She added that while intense kissing can be avoided, the responsibility for protecting a marriage rests with the actor and the spouse who knowingly accepted the realities of the profession.
Stephen also noted that some actors decline kissing scenes for personal or religious reasons, while others willingly accept them, stressing that her duty is to protect actors professionally, not interfere in their marriages.
