Former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi has declared that he is firmly in the 2027 presidential race under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), rejecting any suggestion of stepping down as a running mate to Atiku Abubakar.
He said “I did not buy a form to be Vice President,” insisting that no consensus has been reached ahead of the party primaries.
Amaechi, Atiku Abubakar and businessman Hayatudeen Muhammed are contesting the ADC ticket after Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso withdrew.
Meanwhile, Obi appeared before a screening panel of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja as the party prepares for the 2027 elections. The NDC chairman warned of a “political war” ahead of the polls.
Amaechi also accused the federal government of weakening institutions and targeting opposition figures, though he expressed respect for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while criticising governance direction ahead of 2027 general elections in Nigeria political tension rises.
