The son of late veteran actor and scholar Kola Oyewo has revealed that the 80-year-old cultural icon appeared to predict his passing hours before his death on Friday, saying he was “going home” during a conversation with family members.
Oluwatobi Oyewo, the youngest of his five sons, disclosed that the revered thespian had been speaking in parables in the days leading up to his death and repeatedly expressed readiness to depart.
According to him, the actor, who had battled an enlarged prostate since 2019, saw his health deteriorate in recent months after an initially successful surgery.
He said the family chose not to pressure him into another operation due to his age and medical risks. Oluwatobi described his father as a humble, hardworking and deeply devoted Catholic who consistently preached unity, faith and responsibility to his children.
He added that the late actor took pride in preserving Yoruba language and culture within his family and wished to be remembered for his immense contributions to theatre arts, academia and national cultural development.
