Ex-Power Minister Jobless as Alli Wins Oyo APC Guber Primary

Senator Sarafadeen Alli has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State for the 2027 election after recording a landslide victory in the party’s primary election.

Alli secured 578,143 votes to defeat former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who polled 19,193 votes, alongside another aspirant in the contest.

The outcome of the primary comes days after Adelabu resigned from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.

However, the former minister rejected the credibility of the exercise, alleging widespread irregularities during the voting process.

Adelabu raised the concerns while speaking with journalists on Thursday shortly after casting his vote at his ward.

“I must sound this note of warning that it is not this way in a lot of other wards,” he said.

“Reports reaching me state that there are a lot of gross misconducts in the other wards, ranging from various forms of infractions.”

The former minister further alleged that electoral procedures were manipulated in some parts of the state.

“In some wards, they conducted the election hours before the appointed time and wrote the figures they liked,” Adelabu claimed.

Despite the allegations, the APC proceeded with the collation of results, eventually declaring Alli winner of the governorship ticket.
