“Every Marriage Should Be Renewed Every Five Years” — Bovi Proposes New Approach To Marriage

Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has proposed that marriages should operate on a renewable five-year term, arguing that regular reviews would strengthen accountability and improve relationships between spouses.

Speaking on the Dear Ife podcast, Bovi said couples should periodically assess their unions to address unresolved issues before they become serious problems.

He explained that the possibility of a scheduled review would encourage husbands and wives to be more intentional in their behaviour and commitment throughout the marriage.

According to him, the idea is particularly suitable for African societies where marriage is viewed as a communal institution involving both families.

Bovi stressed that his proposal is not designed to promote divorce but to create structured opportunities for couples to reaffirm or reconsider their commitment after open discussions.

He maintained that knowing a review is approaching would motivate spouses to make necessary adjustments and nurture healthier, more responsible marriages.
