The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has responded to renewed public debate around alleged child abuse in Nigerian daycare centres following the resurfacing of old social media posts linked to singer Simi.
The agency said it remains committed to investigating every credible report of child exploitation, urging members of the public with verifiable information or personal experiences to report confidentially through its official channels.
NAPTIP stressed that allegations involving children must always be handled with seriousness and responsibility.
Reacting to the controversy, Simi clarified that the tweets, posted in 2012, were being misrepresented.
She explained that she was an adult at the time and was assisting at her mother’s daycare while pursuing her music career.
The singer insisted that none of her posts suggested abuse or inappropriate behaviour.
Both NAPTIP and the artiste called for responsible interpretation of online content to protect children while preventing false narratives.
