“Don’t Ignore Cooking Skills in Marriage” — Pastor Adeboye Sparks Debate Over Ideal Wife Qualities

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has sparked fresh debate after advising men against marrying women who cannot cook or demonstrate basic hospitality.

Speaking during a sermon, the respected cleric said practical skills and character traits remain essential in choosing a life partner, warning that ignoring such qualities could lead to marital problems.

According to him, intelligence, godly character, and domestic ability are key foundations for a stable home. Adeboye stressed that even spiritual approval alone should not override practical considerations in marriage decisions.

“Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook… if she can’t be hospitable, you’re heading for trouble,” he said, adding that biblical principles support such expectations in a wife.

His remarks have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with his traditional view of marriage roles, while others argue that modern relationships should prioritise equality and shared responsibilities over domestic expectations.
