Benin Queen, Palace Officials Face Sanctions Over Peller’s Unauthorised Visit

The Benin Traditional Council has threatened sanctions against a palace queen and officials after social media influencer Peller gained unauthorised access to the Oba of Benin’s palace on March 6.

In a statement, BTC Secretary Frank Irabor described the visit as a “serious breach of protocol” and a desecration of the sacred institution.

Preliminary investigations revealed that some palace staff and chiefs facilitated Peller’s entry, resulting in disciplinary action, including the indefinite suspension of a chief and the detention of a council staff member, Mr Omuemu, by the police.

The council demanded that Peller appear before a committee of chiefs to explain the circumstances and tender a written apology.

Failure to comply may trigger legal action. BTC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding centuries-old traditions, warning that any attempts to undermine the palace’s sanctity would be met with strict consequences.
