A new wave of internal discord has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the announcement of a breakaway faction led by political commentator and activist, Alhaja Hafsatu Danladi.
Danladi declared herself chairperson of the faction, citing what she described as a worsening leadership crisis within the ruling party. She maintained that her emergence was in response to deep-seated issues affecting the APC’s internal structure.
In a statement, she revealed that the faction had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), notifying the electoral body of its formation while pushing for the withdrawal of recognition from the party’s current National Working Committee (NWC) headed by Nentawe Yilwatda.
“I, Alhaja Hafsatu Danladi, hereby assert my position as the true and authentic Chairperson of the APC,” she said, insisting that the current leadership structure lacks legitimacy.
She further disclosed plans to institute legal action at a Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the validity of the existing leadership, describing the move as necessary to restore internal democracy and due process within the party.
According to Danladi, the suit will also seek a court order directing INEC to withdraw recognition of the Yilwatda-led NWC, which she labelled an “illegitimate structure” managing the party’s affairs.
She argued that the step was crucial to preserving the integrity of the APC and ensuring strict adherence to the rule of law.
