Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has become the first African female artist to earn a Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Diamond-certified single in the United States.
The historic milestone was achieved through Wait For U, her collaboration with American rapper Future and Canadian rapper Drake, after the song surpassed 10 million certified units in the US.
Global music monitoring platform Chart Data confirmed that the track has now sold over 11 million units, earning an 11-times Platinum certification from the RIAA.
The achievement also makes Tems only the second African artist to receive a US Diamond single, joining Wizkid, who previously earned the honour through his collaboration with Drake on One Dance.
The latest feat further highlights Tems’ growing international success and the expanding global influence of Nigerian music.
Fans have celebrated the milestone across social media, describing it as another proud achievement for Nigeria and the African music industry.
