“America Isn’t New to My Family” — Davido Reflects on Generations of Overseas Education

Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up about his family’s long-standing tradition of international education, revealing that studying abroad has been part of his family’s history for generations.

Speaking during a recent interview, the singer explained that his late grandfather, who served as a senator, ensured all his children received their education overseas.

Davido disclosed that his father attended school in Kentucky, United States, while his parents first met in London before his mother later earned a master’s degree at Clark University in the United States.

According to the award-winning musician, his family’s ties to America existed long before his own rise to global fame, stressing that living and studying abroad is nothing new to his family.

“My grandfather was a senator and made sure all his children studied abroad. My dad went to school in Kentucky, and he first met my mum in London. She later earned her master’s degree at Clark University, so America isn’t new to my family,” he said.
