Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has reportedly accepted the position of running mate to the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The development was confirmed on Saturday by the immediate past Chairman of the ADC in Rivers State, Leader Sampson, who disclosed that Amaechi had agreed to serve as vice-presidential candidate on the party’s ticket.
Amaechi had earlier contested the ADC presidential primary but lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Before the primary election, the former Rivers State governor publicly stated that he did not purchase the party’s presidential nomination form with the intention of later accepting a vice-presidential position.
Following the primary, Amaechi also strongly rejected the outcome of the exercise amid allegations by aggrieved party members that the contest was manipulated in favour of Atiku.
However, when asked directly whether Amaechi had now accepted the vice-presidential role, Leader Sampson responded in the affirmative, signalling a possible reconciliation within the party as preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.
