ADC faction fixes April 3 for national convention, NWC elections

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced plans to elect new members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) between April 3 and 5 as part of activities leading to its national convention.

The group disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, outlining a timetable for congresses at various levels of the party structure ahead of the convention.

According to the schedule, ward congresses will hold on March 19, followed by local government area congresses on March 24, while state congresses are slated for March 28.

The faction said party executives at the ward, local government, state and national levels would emerge through consensus arrangements.

It explained that the approach was adopted to strengthen internal harmony within the party.

“This decision is taken in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), in furtherance of its commitment to promoting unity, cohesion, and inclusiveness within the party,” the statement said.

“The BOT/NWC believes that the consensus approach will foster greater cooperation, understanding, and collective leadership, ultimately strengthening the party’s ability to achieve its goals and objectives.”

The faction also announced the commencement of a membership registration exercise for new entrants into the party.

According to the statement, the registration exercise will run from March 14 to March 25, with new members expected to enrol at their respective ward offices through the party’s Continuous Membership Registration Committee (CMRC).

“This exercise is strictly for new members; existing members are not required to renew their membership at this time,” the statement added.

It further stated that issues arising from the various congresses would be handled through internal mechanisms, while petitions related to the national convention would be addressed between April 6 and April 10.

The faction also distanced itself from an ongoing electronic membership mobilisation and registration exercise reportedly being conducted by a coalition associated with the party.

According to the statement, the exercise does not comply with the provisions of the ADC constitution.

The group said the official online membership registration platform would be announced later through the party’s authorised channels.

The statement was jointly signed by the factional National Chairman, Nafi’u Bala, and Secretary of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), Rufus Ikanmi.

Meanwhile, another ADC coalition led by former Senate President David Mark had earlier scheduled April 14 for the election of the party’s national officers.
