Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State on Friday formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statewide broadcast, the governor announced that he was leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside members of his cabinet, elected officials and party stakeholders, describing the move as a strategic step toward advancing the state’s development agenda.

Fintiri said the decision was not taken unilaterally but came after “wide consultations with stakeholders, political leaders, and citizens across the state,” stressing that the move was in what he described as the best interest of Adamawa and its future development.

He maintained that the defection was driven by the “developmental interest of the people of Adamawa,” emphasizing the need for political alignment to accelerate growth and governance outcomes.

The governor further disclosed that all commissioners, elected officials and political appointees across the 226 wards of the state would be joining him on the new political platform, signaling a coordinated and structured transition rather than an isolated defection.
