University of Jos (UNIJOS) lecturers have embarked on an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their March 2026 salary and the non-inclusion of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) in their salaries.

The development was confirmed in a statement signed by Prof. Jurbe Joseph Molwus, the Chairman of the UNIJOS chapter of the  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), made available to TVC News on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Prof. Molwus expressed that the decision was taken after due process and in line with the extant resolution of the Chapters NEC committee.

The Union directs its members to embark on an Indefinite strike until demands are met.

The statement reads, “After following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, conduct of exams and statutory meetings as our salary for the month of March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience.”

The statement added, “This is in line with the extant NEC resolution and our standing congress resolution. The action takes immediate effect from Wednesday, 8th April 2026, until we are paid.

“From our consultation, the delay is occassioned by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation as the bursary of the University has done its part in the process of salary payment. It seems our patience is being taken for granted by those who are determined to frustrate industrial harmony.”

The statement concluded, “Please ensure full compliance as the strike monitoring team of the branch will be activated to monitor compliance.”
