Former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, has ruled out contesting for Nigeria’s presidency, saying he is satisfied with his current role and would rather leave history to judge his years in public service.
Speaking during a television interview, Fashola dismissed suggestions of a presidential bid, responding that he was “president at home” when asked if he planned to seek the nation’s highest office.
Reflecting on more than two decades of public service, he described his journey as an extraordinary privilege and expressed hope that it would inspire younger Nigerians to believe in the country’s opportunities.
Fashola also declined to revisit debates over his preferred successor in the 2015 Lagos governorship race, stressing the importance of distinguishing between advice and interference in governance.
He further advocated stronger public confidence in the judiciary, a vibrant opposition, broader participation in policymaking, support for state police and greater cooperation in tackling Lagos’ recurring flooding challenges.
