The ruling All Progressives Congress suffered fresh setbacks in the House of Representatives on Wednesday as three lawmakers formally announced their defection to opposition parties, signalling growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During plenary, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read letters from the affected lawmakers, including Rabilu Bala, representing Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, who defected from the APC to the Peoples Redemption Party, citing persistent internal disagreements and concerns over developments within the party.
Also, Abubakar Zango, representing Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, resigned from the APC and joined the African Democratic Congress, saying his decision was guided by conscience and national interest.
Similarly, Abdullahi, representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State, also dumped the APC for the ADC.
The defections come amid increasing coalition talks and political consultations nationwide, with parties repositioning ahead of the next election cycle.
While the APC insists it remains strong and united, opposition parties view the departures as evidence of growing dissatisfaction within the ruling party.
