Anambra State has witnessed heightened security as residents votes in the governorship election.

Security officials have been deployed across various wards and polling units to ensure a smooth voting process.

In some areas, election officials arrived late, with journalists reporting that logistical challenges were the main cause of delays.

Additionally, certain locations in Anambra East experienced issues activating the BVAS machines, causing minor setbacks in voting.

At Polling Unit 006, Obi Palace, Umumunna Amakwa, Ozubulu Ward 01 in Ekwusigo LGA, voters queued patiently as security personnel maintained order on the ground.

Presiding officers also guided voters on how to properly place their fingers on the ballot papers.

Among the voters was 80-year-old Madam Ogochukwu from Utuh community in Nnewi South, who has been voting since 1963. She expressed joy at exercising her right once again today.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command imposed a total restriction on vehicle movements in and out of the state.

The restriction, which started at midnight, will remain in effect until 6pm today.

SP Ikenga Tochukwu explained that the decision was reached during a meeting of Security Services Commanders in Anambra State to prevent political thugs and other criminal elements from disrupting the electoral process.
