Popular socialite and businessman, Cubana Chief Priest, has dismissed the chances of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing the former Labour Party candidate as “not serious.”

Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, made the remarks during a livestream session with streamer Peller in a video that surfaced online on Wednesday.

Speaking partly in pidgin English, the celebrity barman also claimed that President Bola Tinubu still does not fully trust him because of his open support for Obi during the 2023 presidential election.

“President Bola Tinubu no really trust me as an Igbo man that I am. He look me with one eye because he believes that this one that worked for Peter Obi before at the last election,” he said.

The businessman, who currently serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the Pro-Tinubu City Boys Movement, explained that he later aligned with Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress because he did not want to remain on the losing side politically.

Asked during the livestream why he abandoned Obi’s camp, Cubana Chief Priest replied, “Because I don’t want to lose again because they say first fool no be fool, na the second fool be proper fool.”

He went further to downplay Obi’s prospects in the next presidential election, insisting that the former Anambra State governor was not a serious contender.

“He is not serious. The serious people will win,” he added.

The comments have triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some users accusing the socialite of political opportunism, while others defended his decision as part of the realities of Nigerian politics.

Cubana Chief Priest was among celebrities who openly supported Obi and the Labour Party during the 2023 general election before later switching allegiance to the ruling APC.

The socialite recently obtained a House of Representatives nomination form under the APC but later stepped down from the race on the day of the party’s primary election.
